The Master and God are one, but for the disciple the Master comes before God because the Master is the means to God. It's the Master who initiates the disciple, who opens the door to the inner worlds for the disciple. The Master is the password, the door to the kingdom of heaven, so the disciple has to acknowledge the Master first. Only after the disciple has passed through the door of the Master can he face God.  If the door is closed, there is nowhere to enter.  So first the Master, then God! The Master is the means to God; he is the source; he is all-important to the disciple - without him nothing is possible, “I have to touch my Master's feet first.” In the scriptures and poetry of the saints, the Masters are looked upon with high regard, utmost respect, and greatest reverence; it is often difficult to distinguish whether they are talking of the Master of God. The Master is the truth, and that is the truth about the Master. A Master cannot be judged merely by how he acts outwardly. His outward action, his toys or pains, or his intellectual knowledge cannot alter or affect his bliss within, because he dwells in divine ecstasy even while in the human form. The Master exudes a mysterious power, an uncanny authority and an abundance of grace. Just being in his presence, the atmosphere is charged with magnetism, sitting before him, we slowly start to fall in tune with him – on some level we connect with divinity.  When we sit before a true Master we feel an infectious joy and peace. We allow that feeling to radiate and engulf us, letting it overflow to the people around us, who share in the love that fills with such joy. That intoxicating joy is a direct gift from the divinity radiating from the Master!
